1898
Pierre and Marie Curie discover the chemical element radium. Professor
Pekrun founds pekrun in Coswig, Dresden.
1949 On 5th May, the Council
of Europe is founded; on the same day, the pekrun Getriebebau
GmbH engineering plant is founded in Iserlohn.
1956 Bavarian Broadcasting
(Bayerischer Rundfunk) opens the doors to advertising with Persil,
thus initiating the broadcasting of advertisements. pekrun opens
the subsidiary plant in Höfen (Eifel) and starts manufacturing
turbo gear units.
1960 The contraceptive pill
and the globoid worm gear from pekrun are born.
1968 The German team win
the bronze medal in the 4 x 400 m relay at the XIX Summer Olympics
in Mexico. At pekrun, the post of Managing Director and partner
is passed from Peter Ahrens to Paul Figger.
1974 The Federal Republic
of Germany loses 0:1 to the German Democratic Republic, but later
becomes the winner of the World Cup. pekrun builds a production
hall in Iserlohn and starts manufacturing special gears of up
to 150 t.
1976 Biene Maja is broadcast
on German television for the first time, and the outdated plant
in Höfen is shut down.
1985 Boris Becker wins Wimbledon;
he is the first German and the youngest contestant ever to win.
Worm gear production stops in Neuenkirchen.
1989 On 9th November, the
wall comes down and Graduate Engineer, Pierre Holly (Dipl.-Ing.),
is appointed as Production Manager.
1991 Helmut Kohl becomes
the first Bundeskanzler of a united Germany, and Pierre Holly
becomes the Technical Director of pekrun Getriebebau GmbH.
1992 Hans-Dietrich Genscher
steps down for age-related reasons, and pekrun moves to the industrial
area of Iserlohn-Sümmern.
1996 Germany wins the European
Football Championship with the golden goal by Oliver Bierhoff,
and Pierre Holly becomes the sole Managing Director and partner
at pekrun. pekrun is certified in compliance with DIN EN ISO 9001.
1998 The death sentence
is abolished in Bavaria following a referendum, while pekrun acquires
new machinery boasting the latest standards following an executive
decision.
2004 With his driving skills
and Ferrari’s expertise Michael Schumacher wins his seventh
world championship. With pekrun’s expertise one of the most
modern production sites for drive systems in Latin America is
started up in Brazil on 27th January: TGM Transmissões
Indústrias.
2006 The national German
football team surpasses itself in its own country during the World
Cup; and likewise, pekrun. A record year goes down in company
history.
2007 Germany becomes indoor
hockey and handball champions. pekrun continues to focus on modernisation.
2008 Sebastian Vettel wins
the Italian Grand Prix at Monza and at 21 years old becomes the
youngest Grand Prix winner in Formula 1. He celebrates his first
major victory and pekrun receives the largest single order in
the company's history: The construction of 4 rolling mill gears,
each weighing 90t.
2009 Kepler's laws are 400
years old and still apply. Despite the global economic crisis,
pekrun is also focussing on continuity and sustainability, and
shall also continue to be an independent family business in the
future: Pierre Holly is laying the foundations for corporate restructuring
and thus for the new generation.
2010 On the 29th of May,
Lena Meyer-Landrut wins the Eurovision Song Contest for Germany
with her song "Satellite". Two days later, pekrun deploys
SAP as a business solution and logically connects business processes
with each other in real-time. From initial inquiry to deployment
of the gear at the customer's premises, the entire supply chain
is transparent.
2011 On the 29th of April
Prince William and Catherine Middleton say "I do". pekrun
also says "I do" to further growth. The acquisition
of a surface area of 22,000 m2 represents further investment for
strategic expansion.
